The Homegrown Gourmet™ Plug Program includes 76 varieties of veggies, another 16 veggies that can be purchased as a drop seed item (we supply seeds and tags), and 28 types of herbs. 

There are several Heirloom varieties available, as well as some All-America Selections winners.  Plants are selected based on their ease of growth and simple care, as well as their ability to produce an abundance of finished product.

There are two tray sizes available for veggies:  a 288 plug tray (sold as 285) that produces 15 finished flats, and a 128 plug tray (sold as 126) which produces 7 finished flats.  Herbs are only available in the 288 plug tray size, and because they are planted 2 plants per pot, the result is 7.5 finished flats for every plug tray.  (Note:  rosemary, sage golden, tarragon french and thyme lemon are exceptions – they are sold in an 84 plug tray and planted one plant per pot.)

Low program minimums allow you to try several varieties with little investment:

Plugs – 1 tray per variety / 6 trays per ship week / 1 ship week per season

Product tags are shipped automatically with your order (cost is $0.18 each) but pots and trays are optional.  We can ship both pots and shuttle trays to you in full case quantities.  Our custom 3.5″ square green pots come 1600 per case and the 18-count shuttle trays are sold 90 per case.

Plugs are grown to order so changes or cancellations can only be made up to 1 week prior to sowing, or 2 weeks prior to sticking.

FedEx is used to ship materials, and freight is FOB Swanton, OH.  There is an $8 per box fee for all boxes shipped FedEx.  However, truck delivery may be available on large orders, and customer pick-up is also an option.

The average cost per pot, including plugs, tags, pots and trays, is $0.50.  The typical wholesaler sells each pot for $1.25, resulting in a profit of $0.75 per pot!  For a brochure outlining the complete program, click here.
