In the 12th century, strawberries were declared unfit for humans, probably because they grew so close to the ground where snakes and toads could contaminate them. In the 18th century, Swedish botanist Charles Linnaeus went on an all strawberry diet to prove they were safe to eat.
Did you know there are 200 seeds on each berry? You should only pick the ripe, red fruits. Once picked, they will not ripen any further. Strawberries are grown in every U.S. state.
